With the slogan – Saldus fulfills and creates – the days of the Saldus region were announced at the beginning of June. We experienced bright emotions in the magnificent and imaginative festive procession “Saldus fills the streets”.

In the panel of international experts on the possibilities of implementing carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) for the implementation of decarbonization, Board Member of SCHWENK Latvija, Environmental and Legal Director Evita Goša strongly pointed out the absence of an appropriate legal framework for CCUS and the need to develop one as soon as possible, as well as the importance of cooperation throughout the value chain. At the same time, Evita Goša noted the steps taken by SCHWENK Latvija in achieving the goals of climate neutrality – changes in the production process and the use of alternative fuels, achieving a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, as well as efforts to reach infrastructure and technologies that will give us opportunities to capture emissions for storage and further use in the future.

On May 17, graduates of the Responsible Business Ambassadors program of CSR Latvia, who work in various Latvian companies and organizations, visited the SCHWENK Latvija cement plant and got acquainted with the sustainability practices of the company in the field of responsible production of building materials, environmental and social issues, and discussed such topical aspects of sustainability as zero tolerance against corruption and shadow economy.

On the International Day of Labor Protection, we held the third Mission Zero thematic forum, where almost 90 participants gathered. After the forum, 28 more employers joined the initiative by signing the Mission Zero Charter in a festive atmosphere. The members of Mission Zero influence almost 34 thousand employees on a daily basis, which is about 4% of the employed persons in Latvia.

SCHWENK Latvija Management Board Member, Environment and Legal Director Evita Goša participated in the informal meeting of environment ministers in Stockholm on April 18-19 as the only representative of the business environment and represented the country within the Latvian delegation.

The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen cooperation between policy makers and entrepreneurs on the way to the Green Deal.

At the conference “Let’s build a family-friendly society together!” the Society Integration Foundation (SIF) presented special gratitude awards to honoured families, employers, and family-friendly municipalities. SCHWENK Latvija received the status – the Employer of Honor 2023.

The “Family-friendly workplace” program is being implemented by SIF from 2021 in order to promote the concern of every employer about the ability of their employees to harmonize their family and work life, as well as to promote the development of a work environment culture in Latvia that is empathetic, humane and understanding.

At the international agricultural business exhibition Rāmava SPRING 2023, we offered to see in person our II class concrete blocks for the construction of various bulk cargo warehouses, partitions and other objects useful in the farm.

We presented the liming material SCHWENK Agro, which is a product for soil improvement appreciated by our customers.

Environmental and Legal Director Evita Goša has been elected as the Chairman of the Board of the Society Transparency International LATVIA (Delna).

SCHWENK Latvija was the first company to join Delna’s initiative “Zero Tolerance for Corruption”, committing to introduce and promote the principles of transparency, implement and make public anti-corruption policies and procedures in the company and in the business environment.

The State Audit Office, concluding the audit on Latvia’s readiness to achieve the UN’s sustainable development goals by 2030, invited industry and non-governmental sector experts to a discussion on the possibilities of updating Latvia’s progress towards sustainable development both in the public sector and in society as a whole.

At the closing ceremony on March 7, the laureates and Grand Prix winners of the annual Latvian Construction of the Year award were announced. 123 applications in 10 nominations were submitted for the annual competition Latvian Construction of the Year Award 2022, covering architecture, restoration, landscaping and civil engineering projects from various regions of Latvia.

With these two objects, a significant cycle of investments in the plant has come to an end, which strengthens the leading position of our plant in Europe. The silo was built together with the eighth cement mill in the history of Brocēni cement production, and this is a big step towards the future for us, proving that we work for future generations, producing and supplying high-quality and sustainable cement not only in Latvia, but also beyond its borders.
