SCHWENK plant in Brocēni is proud to be the only cement plant in Latvia. Alongside the historical site, which started the operations in 1938 and was the key towards Broceni development as a city, since 2010 operates one of the most modern cement plants in Europe. Using road, maritime and railway transport, cement produced in Latvia is delivered to customers in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland and Belorussia.
Using locally quarried materials, SCHWENK produces high-performance cement for manufacturing of various type of ready-mix and mortar products, concrete elements, dry silo mortar and other building materials, constructions and elements.
We manufacture cement according to European Union and Latvian State standards governing composition, specifications and compliance criteria of the cement (LVS EN 197-1:2012). Quality, environment, labour safety and energy management in our company is certified according to standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001.
Cement is an inorganic hydraulic binder. Mixed with water it forms plastic mortar product that is easy to process and in the curing process it becomes a stone-like mass. Clinker is the main ingredient of cement and consists of limestone, clay, sand and iron additive in defined proportions. Clinker is made by heating a homogenous mixture of raw materials in rotary kiln in 1500°C temperature. Clinker is ground to a fine powder, adding gypsum or its anhydrite to produce cement.
Correctly selecting mixture composition, cement products are sustainable building materials that do not lose their properties also in extreme weather conditions and are resistant to chemical reactions. Mostly they can be recycled and reused, substituting natural rocks. Duly constructed cement-based building materials are excellent in sound insulation.
